Day 2 - Explore Amman
Amman, one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world, is also an energetic 21st century capital. Explore both facets, from the ancient Citadel and the Roman amphitheater built by Marcus Aurelias to the Folklore Museum and a contemporary city art gallery. Then discover the flavors and cultures of Jordan with dinner and a folklore show at the unique Kan Zaman village. Meals B,D
Day 3 - Deep into the North Jordan Valley
Drive to the Dead Sea where you can swim in the lowest spot on earth. Visit Pella, inhabited for more than 6,000 years, with well-preserved Roman ruins and impressive remnants of its Bronze Age city walls. Then journey to remote Um Qais for a dramatic view of the Sea of Galilee. Called Gedara in the Bible, this rarely-visited site is one of the most signifcant in Jordan and not to be missed! Meals B,D
Day 4 - Jerash, The Pompeii of the East!
This morning you tour Jerash, the best-preserved provincial Roman city in the world. Enter through an imposing triple-arched gateway built to honor Hadrian and then explore a wealth of ancient sites, including the impressive Oval Plaza and the Temple of Zeus. Then visit the 12th century Saracen castle at Ajlun before returning to your hotel in Amman. Meals B,D
Day 5 - Along the Kings Way to Petra
Travel along the King’s Way to Madaba to marvel at Byzantine mosaics, including an impressive 6th century mosaic map of the Holy Land. Visit Mt. Nebo, traditional burial site of Moses for sweeping views over the Jordan Valley and visit the ancient Crusader town of Kerak. Arrive in Petra and check-in to the hotel of your choice. Meals B,D
Day 6 - Explore Petra
Enjoy a full day of unhurried, expertly guided exploration through Petra, a strategic link in ancient caravan routes and still stunningly preserved after 2,000 years! The entire city is carved into the sides of a deep gorge, the only entrance through a narrow opening called the Siq. As you enter the lost city of Petra from between the 100-foot cliffs a remarkable vista unfolds: Temples, tombs, and dwellings chiseled out of the solid, rose-hued stone. Meals B,D
Day 7 - Into Wadi Rum and back to the capital
Depart Petra this morning and journey into the desert landscapes of Wadi Rum, immortalized in the epic film, Lawrence of Arabia. Explore by jeep in this remote region, where sandstone and granite mountains rise, sheer-sided, from wide sandy valleys to reach heights of 4,000 feet and more. Continue on to Amman and check-in to your choice of hotel. Meals B,D
