Oct 31, 2014 – Fly to Lima

Upon your arrival in the capital, you'll be warmly met and escorted to our deluxe hotel overlooking the Pacific in the lively district of Miraflores.

Nov 1 – We’ll explore the capital

After a morning to relax, we’ll join our expert guide for a tour of Lima’s historic city center. We’ll see the splendid Colonial architecture of Plaza Mayor and visit Santo Domingo Church and Convent, a lovely complex with courtyards and walls decorated with Spanish tiles. Next we’ll tour the extensive Pre-Columbian collection of the renowned Larco Herrera Museum. Our dinner this evening has been specially arranged just for us at the private residence of Casa Aliaga, still occupied after 16 generations by the descendants of Francisco Pizarro. Meals B,D

Nov 2 – Into the Sacred Valley

After an early breakfast, we’ll be escorted to the airport for our included flight to Cuzco, the ancient capital of the once-mighty Inca Empire. Upon arrival, we’ll set out for the picturesque Sacred Valley to visit Awanacancha to see llamas and alpacas in their natural habitat and to learn about ancient weaving techniques which are still used today in the timeless villages of the Andes. Then we’ll visit the colorful market town of Pisac before checking in to our enchanting resort, built around a 17th-century colonial hacienda set on the Vilcanota River. Meals B,L

Nov 3 – Maras, Moray & Ollantaytambo

Our exploration of the Sacred Valley continues to Maras, an amazing complex of terraced salt mines which have been worked for generations by the same families. We’ll continue across the mountain landscapes to marvel at the ancient agricultural terraces of Moray, one of Peru’s most intriguing and enigmatic Inca sites. At the lovely Wayra Ranch, we’ll enjoy authentic Peruvian cuisine in an inspiring setting surrounded by the Andes. After lunch, we explore the massive stone fortress of Ollantaytambo, so well built that the Incas were able to successfully defend this site against the Spanish in 1537. Meals B,L

Nov 4 – By rail to Machu Picchu

Our 2-day visit to Machu Picchu begins this morning as we board the Vistadome Train for an unforgettable journey through the spectacular Sacred Valley. We arrive in the charming town of Aguas Calientes and ascend by motorcoach to the mountaintop site of Machu Picchu. Our extensive walking tour through this fabled Lost City is enriched as our expert guide illuminates the history and culture of the once-great Inca Empire. We return down the mountainside for a restful overnight at our enchanting retreat, set in a lush and pristine riverside cloud forest.  Meals B,L,D

Nov 5 – Machu Picchu and back to Cuzco

We’ve included your second entry ticket so you can explore Machu Picchu again this morning, at your own pace. Watching the sun’s first golden rays strike the ancient stones of the legendary Lost City of the Inca is an evocative experience you will never forget! Your early access to the site also provides the opportunity to behold the grandeur and mystery of Machu Picchu before the crowds of day-visitors arrive! Enroute back to Cuzco by train, we’ll stop in Chincheros, a charming high-mountain town known for the skill of its resident weavers. Upon arrival, we’ll be escorted to our luxury hotel in the heart of Cuzco where oxygenated rooms promise a comfortable stay in this high-mountain city!  Meals B

Nov 6 – Out and About in Cuzco

This morning’s sightseeing showcases the most significant Inca and Colonial-era monuments including the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun. We’ll also ascend into the hills outside of town to the Inca site of Sacsayhuaman, famed for its extraordinary masonry work and great views over the mountains and Cuzco’s red-tile rooftops. Back in the city at the Almudena Cemetery and bustling San Pedro Market, our guide will offer enriching insight into how ancient traditions – many dating back to Inca times – still endure in the daily lives of Cuzco’s residents. Enjoy free time this afternoon to relax, shop or explore at your own pace. This evening, we gather together for dinner.  Meals B,D

Nov 7 – Fly to Lima

After a leisurely morning, we fly to Lima where you’ll have some free time to shop or explore on your own before our special farewell dinner overlooking Huaca Pucllana, a recently excavated pyramid from the 4th century! Meals B,D
